Tarek Atoui, lebanese artist and composer, presents a solo performance that brings together varied ethnic sound material (from the artist’s travels and wanderings), industrial and natural field recordings from port cities around the world (Abu Dhabi, Beirut, Singapore, Istanbul,…) and electronic sounds synthesized with his own software and interfaces.

These different sources are superimposed to create heterophony and endless allusions to the tarab of Arabic music. “Tarab” is less a musical genre than the trance derived from music once exposed to it for a long period of time. During this performance, materials and bodies express each other until all geographical, temporal and physical boundaries collapse.
