Multipli.Cities

In its 2023 edition, centred on the theme “Multipli.Cities”, the festival set out to highlight the importance of embracing difference and fostering coexistence between communities—human and non-human—within urban spaces. Today, we understand that these values are intrinsically linked to ecological processes, and that systemic inequalities challenge cities’ ability to achieve true sustainability.

Lisboa Soa draws inspiration from public spaces that are not only ecologically aware, but also socially just and inclusive. This was the proposal for Quartel Largo Residências and Carpintarias de São Lázaro: to create a collective space that enables sonic, and also multisensory, experience, in close connection with the city and its multiple multipli.cities.

Sound installations, performances and workshops were accessible to the public—all audiences—over four days, from 24 to 27 August, at Quartel Largo Residências and Carpintarias de São Lázaro. We navigated through sound waves that reveal the different layers of the world around us, inviting bodies to experience space, stimulating listening and challenging the audience’s sensitivity to phenomena that are often imperceptible. Lisboa Soa invites us to dive into this transformative experience, where the city reveals its hidden, diverse and constantly changing soundscape.
