From the garden that houses the Greenhouse we can hear many aspects that define the city: the remote bridge connecting to the ‘outside’, the foghorns for the boats on the sea representing the ‘elsewhere’ and the semi-remote birds, cars, trams that might represent ‘memory’. Allard van Hoorn brought these sounds into the greenhouse, where they were modified, amplified and subsequently enacted by dancers/movers in a specifically designed choreography. The Greenhouse is the metaphor for the ‘Sonarium’; the total experience of sound, that is the internal and external, conscious and sub-consious, body-memory-movement sounding of the space.
